Years in the making..
D rake and Jamaican dancehall artist Popcaan for the past couple of years have been known to have had a musical alliances. Since having joined forces to record the reggae-influenced single entitled “Controlla” which appeared on Drake’s compilation project ‘Views’ in 2016. But, ever since the collaboration, Poppy & Drizzy have been spotted together at various times at performances, and locally in Jamaica. Fast forward a few years, PopCaan possibly the biggest Dancehall artist on a global scale are making things official and bringing his ‘Unruly’ / ‘Mixpak’ imprint to the OVO Sound announced over the weekend at Poppy’s Unruly festival in St. Thomas, and well earned I might as well add. From producing singles & performing locally in Jamaica to sold out stadium shows abroad.
Drake told the a crowd of thousands just before Christmas holidays his intentions for the Unruly boss,
“This is something we’ve worked on for a very long time. I just wanna let everybody know, finally. Officially, 2019 Popcaan is signed to OVO.”
There is no question that Popcaan has had a major influence on the Pop/Rapstar Drake through various lyrical abilities, and adding to his growing clout in the Caribbean culture, he will join PartyNextDoor, Majid Jordan, Plaza, and Baka Not Nice, among others at the OVO Sound imprint.
PopCaan ‘Forever’ album peeked at #171 on the Billboard charts dispite a sold out tour!
