The phrase originally termed by Megan, ‘Hot Girl Summer’ has earned its stripes and is officially a trademark belonging to the rap superstar.

During a recent interview with 103 Jamz, Megan revealed via The Neighborhood Talk, that the trademark for the popular phrase “hot girl summer,” was approved by the office of trademarks. When asked about the trademark, she said, “Yep, it’s already in the process. It’s trademarked. We did it.” While just last week the ‘Hot Girl Semester’ announced her partnership with Jay’s Roc Nation Mgmt among other events she’s already booked for.
Megan ultimately explains that the reason for the trademark, was that witnessed a Forever 21 campaign using the slogan ‘Hot Girl Summer’ which sparked her interest in securing that bag and deter other brands riding her coattails without permission. While speaking with Allure magazine, she said, “I really didn’t even know that it was gonna catch on how it did. It was just me talking sh-t, telling everybody I was gonna be me for the summer, and they should be them too, like as free as they can be.”
Megan explained what the definition was when she spoke to the Root. “It’s about women and men being unapologetically them, just having a good-a— time, hyping up their friends, doing you,” she told The Root.
