The Jamaican artist Protoje signed with the American major label RCA imprint which includes support for his In.Digg.Nation Collective.

Yesterday’s announcement compromises of extended label support for Lila Iké and Sevana, both under the In.Dig.Nation collective.  Protoje formed the In.Dig.Nation Collective in 2014.  Lila Iké and Sevana both are currently rising stars in Jamaica.  The announcement comes after the fact that Protoje previously mentioned that he was alongside the multi-award winner Alicia Keys and her husband, super-producer Swizzbeats.

The collective joins recent Grammy Award winner Koffee as label mates at RCA.  Prior to her signing, the only Jamaican to have been on the label’s roster was singer Denroy Morgan.  Denroy signed to the label in the early 1980s.  Protoje becomes the third Reggae act to the RCA imprint and the fist Reggae collective welcomed by the label.

Protoje has previously worked with Alicia Keys in the remix ‘Reggae’ version of her ‘Underdog‘ single to be featured from her upcoming compilation.  The song also features the International Reggae star Chronixx.  There’s a lot more to discover about the budding collective as they continue to experiment with their own talents and sounds.  I have also noticed that Protoje has been leading challenges of pushing the culture through variations of songs.  Now utilizing the opportunity outside of Jamaican culture would be an interesting space to see the collective develop.
