Hulu has found its inner Wu.
The 10-part ‘Wu-Tang: An American Saga’ story was announced early in February this year to be in development between Wu Tang ‘RZA’ & the Hulu streaming network. While the backdrop of the story puts RZA in the front seat as the primary owner of the Wu brand, only recently has there been added development in the casting of the docu-series heading for Hulu scheduled for a release to be determined among the production group.
It was announced over the weekend that the Harlem bred, Dave East has acquired the role as the one and only Johnny Blaze aka TICAL or better known as Method Man. With the backdrop set in the early ’90s, the docu-series will trace the historical events following the New York City’s beloved Wu-Tang Clan, from Shaolin, as the most successful and influential hip-hop groups of all time. Other roles include Moonlight‘s Ashton Sanders as RZA, the group’s architect. Meth and East had an existing relationship before the casting, one dating back to 2017 via the ‘Eviction’ music video which also featured Max B, Joe Young & Hanz On.
Fellow Wu-Tang Clan members Ghostface Killah, Inspectah Deck, Masta Killa, GZA, and Ol’ Dirty Bastard’s estate will serve as consulting producers. An air date for the Hulu series has yet to be announced. A four-part Showtime documentary about the group, Wu-Tang: Of Mics and Men, will debut later this year.
