Facebook forces brand changes
Mark Zuckerberg, the founder of Facebook also touting as the owner of Instagram and Whatsapp after spending Billions in acquiring the globally used apps has announced a (formal) change or a name addition for two of the most popular apps in the world.
The main aim as the press release claims is to change their names in order to make the property of the apps clear. According to The Information, which was the first to spread the latest announcements by FB. But, I do think it’s more so an opportunity to toute a brand ‘from Facebook’ FB stocks took a little hit over the weekend. The change will turn ‘Instagram’ into “Instagram from Facebook” and ‘WhatsApp’ into “WhatsApp from Facebook”. Bertie Thomson, a representant of Facebook company, confirmed the decision, explaining:
“We want to be clearer about the products and services that are part of Facebook”
The change, in fact, will not influence any of the functions of the apps and, at least for now, it is purely aesthetic of the purchased apps.
But Portal may be a different story, and there’s evidence that these privacy controversies are taking some toll on Facebook’s relationship with consumers.
