From the upcoming album titled ‘Upside Down,’ Buju Banton debuts his first single ‘Memories’ featuring R&B singer John Legend.

The collaboration by the legendary musicians made a debut on May 8th.  Thus far the single has received over 100K views on Buju Banton’s official Youtube page.  The song is said to be from the upcoming album tentatively titled ‘Upside Down’ by Buju Banton.  12-years ago Buju Banton and John Legend debut their first music single together in ‘Can’t Be My Lover.’  At the same time, Buju had just received his Grammy for ‘Best Reggae Album’ award.  This year under the guidance of Roc Nation, ‘Memories’ is produced by Gargamel Music featuring the R&B hitmaker John Legend.

Compared to his previous releases such as ‘Steppa‘ and a prior feature alongside Tory Lanez has been a bit softcore for Reggae fans.  Besides John Legend’s signature golden voice, the track is an underwhelming ‘midtempo’ single release.  The song still maintains a chart worthy release for dedicated fans of John Legend.  One the other hand it is evident that the album being prepared by Buju Banton is focused on inclusivity.  Rather than it being a genre-defining moment/album for the post-prison reggae artist re-emerging with the cultural torch.

Unfortunately, it feels like Buju is looking for a way to replace his core fanbase.
