Buju Banton releases ‘Trust’ featuring Tory Lanez ahead of the album release. The project said to have some 18 tracks has yet to have a scheduled release date. Nonetheless ‘Trust’ mp3 single leads the release of the project on Buju’s Youtube page. The original audio for the single came out four months ago on November 15th which received 5M views. The song now featuring Tory Lanez has been met with quite an unexpected stir. While fans debate Tory Lanez style and tone do not fit the mood alongside Buju’s unique abilities, others disagree.
In summary, the disagreement is about the vibe of the record. Some fans have high expectations for Buju. One that he continues the journey of spreading the message of consciousness. While others accept his willingness to explore the lighter, side of Dancehall.
To be honest a ‘something for everyone’ marketing is not a one-for-all gameplan. Specifically in Dancehall. Buju Banton fans would rather a release of two-separate projects that cater to a specific fanbase than receive an all-in-one project. The possibility of releasing a side ‘A’ and side ‘B’ project is a marketing plan that can still be used in today’s climate. Just hope Buju’s future releases do no blur the line for his core fanbase that would eventually alienate them.
