The sequel to the short-form video app just surprises launched on IOS & Android. Byte proves 1-minute videos are just too long.

Dom Hofmann is the co-creator of the original platform, Vine.  He has been quietly working on bringing back the famed 6-second video release. What is being called ‘Vine 2’ on social media the successor to the short-form video is called ‘Byte’. Apparently the app has been available in beta form for quite some time.  Surprisingly on Friday afternoon, the app made a drop and the hashtag #Vine2 also made a trend.

Vine which was acquired by Twitter adopted the technology into their platform only to shortly be replaced by ‘Live’ video representation of Sports and Entertainment events. Dom has been dropping hints and once mentioned that there was going to be a drop late Spring, only to release the app available on all platforms on a wintery evening. The name itself is not to be confused with Beijing-based Bytedance, the Chinese maker of TikTok.
