Almost 19-years after the unfortunate passing of Aaliyah, fans rally with #FreeAaliyahMusic protest against music streaming platforms.

Music streaming platforms have not been able to keep to their promise.  With almost 3-albums to date, Spotify and streams alike are still unable to stream her catalog despite 2019 reports. The singer left behind music that fans of various ages have been continuously celebrating. In December 2019 media reports celebrated the possibility of a 2020 music streaming release of her catalog with no avail. According to Complex the main reason for the absence of music was because of her former manager and uncle, Hankerson.

The article reported that the only barrier preventing Aaliyah’s hit albums from streaming potentially due to his “inability to fully cope with his niece’s death.”  Barry Hankerson served as the head of the now-defunct label Blackground Records.  Barry had previously announced her music would be available on all streams on 1/16/2020 but it has not been made available.
