The athletic brand PUMA is best known for its sportswear and sneakers release.  Among various collaborations including Rihanna’s Fenty & Nipsey Hussle’s TMC.  The athletic brand has stacked up a variety of releases from within the Hip-Hop culture. Ending the 2019 year on a strong note the sports brand has decided in collaboration with the fashion Balmain, to release a boxing-inspired capsule. While the pair may seem an unlikely match the brand’s budding relationship has already announced future plans together according to WWD.

Thanks to PUMA’s ambassador and lead at Balmain, Cara Delevingne, both companies found a commonality with the capsule.  Producing a high-end unisex capsule collaboration created an environment of diversity and inclusion as seen in the video release teaser above. The inspiration for the teaser has also been influenced by transforming the boxing culture into a high-end fashion release. The highly unnecessary release (BTW) thankfully features a small capsule of boxing-inspired sports shorts with a metallic/gloss finish sporting both logos on the cover, extra high sneakers, jackets, socks, t-shirts, and the obvious glam uniforms. Another release of some couture pieces seems to stick out in an attempt to transform athletic into streetwear.

While I don’t believe the capsule is a hit, it is also an entry point for the brand into middle-priced streetwear release. The campaign for the PUMA x BALMAIN created with Cara Delevingne collection will launch on November 21st.
