The Samsung brand has expanded its open-door feature to the auto industry using Samsung Keys smartphone NFC Technology to unlock/lock more.

Initially announced in late 2021, it was a one-of-a-kind, state-of-the-art feature among its smartphone competitors. Keys was launched with intentions to support Genesis cars. Within less than a year, it has expanded its features to include models by BMW and KIA. Samsung has announced the expansion but is limited usage within South Korea.

  • Genesis GV60, Genesis G90
  • BMW 1~8, BMW X5~X7, BMW iX3, BMW iX, BMW i4
  • Kia Niro

I would assume that the NFC technology is still testing, hence its limited user base. With global intentions, the feature is also only supported by Samsung’s newer and higher-end phones. We’re talking about the Galaxy S21 series and later the Galaxy Z Fold 3, the Galaxy Z Flip 3, and the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra. While this is bad news for most of us seems like Samsung users will get the best of their devices before the brand even thinks about expanding into iOS devices. Given the fact that North American cars are preparing for the futuristic fusion.

Last year Hyundai Motor Group co-hosted the event in a press release.
