Here are a few things that helped the weekend wrap-up (Mar 28 – April 3rd) stories, considering we’re all stuck inside.
It was quite a rough week for many. Retailers took a tumble throughout the country, including the fashion and sneaker industry. The pandemic declined sales of footwear by 76% in the fourth week of March according to Matt Powell, down 65% compared to the same time last year. Sportswear and gear in various athletic departments tanked including baseball, football and soccer — dropped nearly 100%.
All while, the weekend wrap-up includes fashion brands, music artists and athletes stepping up to the challenge to commit millions of dollars in donations. Various organizations and personalities have led these donations into helping those affected by the COVID-19 pandemic currently affecting the globe.
The good about all this, it seems to bring the best out social media. While retailers and workers are struggling, various influencers and artists used the platform to share some happiness. Drake released new music, SLMN & Anders delivered a first off SLMN new ep in the works, Apple snuck a teaser of the new iPhone model, leading with Swizzbeats & Timbaland arrange the battle between Scott Storch and Mannie Fresh gathering over 200K viewers on IG LIVE.
News also includes rapper 6ix9ine being released from prison because of COVID-19 concerns but will serve the remaining of his time under house arrest. Among the entertainers, many have brought us interviews and concerts from their home or studio using LIVE on Instagram.
